I was reading about Apple’s next great thing: the iWatch. It is computer one wears around the wrist. It is an example of wearable computers that includes Amazon’s eye glasses and Nike’s Fuelband. In some manner the iWatch will sense where you are in the world and your personal environment and it will supply you with the information that you need, probably from data stored in the Cloud. That sounds sort of vague as to how one orders up this information with no keyboard. The market is said to grow to 485 million units sold per year and Apple will have most of those sales.

Russians are again massing on the Ukraine  border as if to prepare for invasion. After the Russians separatists shot down the passenger airliner, most countries are joined in invoking sanctions on Russia. Good thing there is not Olympics to interfere with Putin’s world image.  After Putin pulled off his Anschluss of the Crimea much like Hitler in 1938 in Austria, now he wants to do so again. Interestingly, it was said that Hitler thought that Roosevelt was thinking of his own Anschluss or peaceful takeover, wait for it………………Canada. I carry around much trivia. I actually read Churchill’s History of WWII, all six volumes. It was an impressive work and Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. I am a great admirer of Churchill. I love the anecdotes of his life the best. He was once told a woman ‘My god you are ugly’. To which she replied, ‘And you, sir, are drunk!” To this Churchill replied, “Yes I am, Mum, but tomorrow I shall  be sober, but you shall still be ugly.”

The reason I bring this up, I think this is the reason that our prices jumped up a bit. Gasoline is up by 3.33 cents at the average rack in Selma. Diesel fuel moved up by 3.32 cents/gal. Prices are:

Big development plans for Chatham County. It seems Jim Goodnight of SAS and his Preston corp. are planning the biggest development projects ever in North Carolina. Pittsboro’s population  will grow from 5000 to 60,000 people. They will need 22000 residential units. They are courting high tech businesses to locate there. One would think that SAS would be well contacted with such companies. Build out could take 30 years. And that is not all. Another company has prepared a large land mass and have it already State approved for a site of a car factory. Two big WOWS!

West Texas Intermediate is up 62 cents to $98.40. Gasoline moved down hair by 0.15 cents at the average rack in Selma. Diesel fuel moved up by 0.9 cents/gallon. Prices are:

I  saw something, this week, I have never seen in Raleigh. I saw a flock of about a dozen Snowy Egrets flying over my house. I have seen them off Southport but never here. A beautiful sight.

I have seen Oleander all over Bermuda. I have seen bougainvillea everywhere in Acapulco.  I think our plant here is crepe myrtle. It is beautiful and it blooms all summer. We have purple and pink and white, now cardinal red and lavender.  I wonder if someone has bred a yellow or orange color.

Tropical storm Bertha has formed up in the Caribbean and is supposed to march up the East Coast next week. It should be offshore of Hatteras Tuesday 2 p.m. Didn’t we already have a hurricane Bertha?

The dollar index against all the major world’s currencies is up to 81.3 cents. As I said before, I think it should worth a dollar. Dumb old me. Now that  the Fed has quit diluting the value of the dollar by printing currency. It should go straight up.

The Dow is down to 16,493, lost all gains for the year. No skin off my back. I got wiped out by the Great Recession. Small business is hurting. The big international corporations are the ones making record profits.  I think it would be really ironic if these companies that are stockpiling all this money off shore got bought up by non-American corporations for their monies. Maybe we do need to change the law to become more competitive, but some might be sorry after they are absorbed by others. Without government intervention, our world economy is just a real game of Monopoly, sooner or later one corporation would own everything.

West Texas Intermediate Crude is down to $97.88/barrel.

Fortune, according to the Triangle Business Journal, picked the Raleigh area as the #1 place to do business. What is that about?

The good news for us, we have a good drop in our gasoline and diesel prices, at least for a Friday. Yeh! Gasoline is down by 2.18 cents/gallon at the average rack in Selma. Diesel fuel is down by 2.09 cents/gallon. Prices are:

You probably know this but Raleigh is the only other capitol laid out like Washington, DC from scratch.  All perfect squares and rectangles around the old Capital building where all the roads that lead there are named after the towns at the other end of those roads, Hillsborough, Edenton, Fayetteville, Wilmington, Salisbury, Lenoir, & Wake Forest. There is also Peace Street which sounds like more of a prayer. There is no Charlotte Street. I guess there was no Charlotte at that time.

Prices are hardly changed. Gasoline slipped by 0.25 cents at the average rack in Selma. Diesel fuel eased by 0.39cents per gallon. Prices are:

I tried something new today. Well to me it was new. I started making a grilled cheese sandwich which I like very much. Then I thought I might add a touch of butter to the toast. But then I thought how much I love garlic bread, SO I had a grilled cheese garlic bread sandwich. Man, that was good! Next I want to try pimento cheese garlic bread sandwich, also toasted.

I was thinking today that with all the fracking going on in this country, there is a lot of money being made. Which means the government should be bringing in a lot of tax revenue with oil companies paying taxes and lots of big paychecks from royalties and good jobs. I was wondering what percent of the tax revenue that petroleum  brings in. Refineries have to be the most productive factories around and then drilling rigs, pipelines, trucking and service stations. I would make a bet that our oil industry is the largest tax payer segment of our economy.   I would like to see a list of the largest tax payers in this country. I would find that very interesting.
