Crude oil is down $.13 from the close yesterday and presently stands at $76.81. One has to figure that we are headed for $80 in the future, maybe before summer is over because world demand is increasing.

In regards to the Gulf spill disaster, I have come to the conclusion that people, ordinary people, are going to have to solve the problem. If they wait for BP or the federal government to act, they are screwed.

1.They need to come up with their own booms, their own make-shift skimmer, their own sand sifting machines and ask for volunteers to implement the plan. They can apply for compensation later, but don’t count on it. There are hundreds of thousands of people that would donate their time to save their favorite beach or the wetlands if there was a plan. Make a plan. Get a plan that could work and ask for help. Hotels might have to donate their rooms or reduce the rate to just cover their costs but they will be empty anyway. Boat owners could donate their time and boats if someone could help them pay for the fuel to put booms out. Turn all of the shared frustration and anger into action.  One cannot change what has already happened, but we can damn sure change the present and the future.

2. Establish two websites, one for practical advice for layman, what works and what does not and a second for the academic side. The marine biologists, chemists, etc. need to pool their knowledge. First they need to measure everything scientifically and report the good, the bad or the ugly. They need to document what is happening, what was done to correct it and what works to diminish the harm to environment. I would try to discover what resulted after the first Gulf War in Kuwait which was the biggest oil spill in history when Sadamn flushed all of that crude into the ocean. It would be helpful if one knew if the Ecoaddresses were the same or similar. (Most of my ideas are 20 to 30 years old. The ecoaddress was last summer’s thought problem. I have attached a copy). This might give us and idea of what to expect. If one knows what to expect then one can plan. What works and what does not. How does one help the environment recover in the quickest possible manner. If we pool all of our minds into one website and one large brain then we have a much better chance of succeeding.

3. I would come up with a plan for the future, much like any hurricane disaster plan because it will happen again. Plan on it.

Best regards,

-Larry H.

I don’t know about you but I am more and more reluctant to turn on the news with what is happening in the Gulf. Shell has a drilling rig that is down over 9,000 feet, twice are far as BP was. It was a dream I had that we could build an underwater City, Atlantis, with a temple in the middle and the statue of Atlantis in the middle all lit up with ocean current generators and cameras that were connected to the Internet. One could view the sea life coming and going 24/7, year in and year out, recording temperature and time for a prolonged study. It was just a dream. Walt Disney is dead after all and who else would take it on.

Marine Scientists have located two underwater plumes of the oil in the Gulf. BP’s Heyward says they are crazy because oil floats. But these plumes are trapped between temperature layers. They are poisonous and one cannot see the particles that were suspended by the methane and pressure coming from the Deepwater Horizon leak. These plumes are 20 to 30 miles wide and hundreds of miles long. No one knows what damage they will do before it is all over. When you think it can’t get any worse, then there will be a hurricane.

Enjoy your day,

-Larry

Announcent: Sydney Edmondson’s first day at Hopkins Oil

Announcement:

Hopkins Oil has a new Operations Manager starting today, replacing Bill Hargreaves who will return to what he loves best and that is sales.

Sydney Edmondson, formerly of RedStar Oil Company, is now our Operations Manager and Eddie Williams is training him in our system. We have gotten to know Sydney over the years where we have often traded products with RedStar when we or they were short. Sydney will be a valuable asset to our Delivery Team.

Best regards,

-Larry

P.S. To all of our transport customers, both trucks are down this morning with minor problems. There we be a few hours delay in starting deliveries. It must be a Monday.

Gasoline & Diesel Fuel Price Changes

Good Monday Morning,

We have another exciting week ahead of us. Man, it is getting hot down South and summer won’t officially start for another week. June 21st is the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year. One would think that, as the days become shorter, that the 21st would be the hottest day of the year, after which the days should become cooler. Yet, that is the first day of summer? It probably has something to do with the earth’s tilt and a buffering by the oceans. Gasoline prices are down today by 1.5 cents at the average rack in Selma. Diesel fuel is down by 1.27 cents. Crude oil is up $1.70 at this time from its close on Friday  of $75.48/barrel or $1.80/gallon. Prices are:

Notes:

When I give the change in gasoline, I only look at the Unleaded Regular.

When I give you the change in diesel fuel, I am always looking at the ULS or on road (though today they are  both exactly the same).

When I quote the crude oil price, I am using as a base, only West Texas Intermediate, the world standard for ‘sweet’ crude.

The Cost with tax is what Hopkins Oil would pay today at the average rack (oil company supplier) in Selma.

Enjoy your week,

-Larry

I was driving back up I-40 from the coast last evening with just my yellow lab. He was having a panic attack. My son says it’s my driving. I set the speed control on 78. For a while I was passing most cars. After about an hour, cars started to pass me, some of the ones that I had passed. During the next hour,  almost everyone was passing me, most of them doing at least 85. I felt like I was being run over. One old Buick went by 90+. Governor Bev. must have been saving some on her budget, not a blue light special anywhere, not one all the way back to Raleigh. There seemed to be a ‘if he can do it then I can too feeling’ and they followed each other in droves. That was fine with me. I like to have those ‘rabbits’ running on ahead collecting the speeding tickets that I might have gotten.  Go for it!

Enjoy your week,

-Larry H.
